Red Lodge is a mountain town at about 5,500 feet, and fences here are built for snow first. Rock Creek runs through the middle of town, and the lots along it are full of creek cobble and boulders. Snow slides off metal roofs onto side fences, and plows push it against front ones. We keep solid panels back from the drip line where we can, and use stronger rails on runs that will carry a drift all winter. The old neighborhoods, such as Hi Bug and Finn Town, date from the coal mining years and have narrow lots and alleys. Downtown is a listed historic district.
